In September 2021, Migros magazine journalist Dinah Leuenberger visited our Cristallina marble quarry to find out more about this natural stone.

After visiting the marble quarry and the Peccia Valley, she wrote a beautiful article, which you can read by clicking HERE.

In her article the journalist not only wrote about the Cristallina marble and its history, but she also talked about the art present in Peccia thanks to the Sculpture School and the new International Sculpture Center where our Swiss marble is carved.

Not only stone and art, but also food! In Peccia there is the Grotto Pozzasc, a wonderful grotto immersed in nature where you can taste the classic polenta cooked as usual in a large pot by the fireplace.

Taking up the words of Mr. Marzio Maurino, owner of Cristallina SA together with his son Cesare, journalist Leuenberger explains that:

Marble is considered a soft stone. In the past, it was chewed by the earth – like chewing gum. Shifting tectonic plates pushed the limestone deep into the earth’s interior about 250 million years ago, where it turned into marble at more than 400 degrees. The forces and movements of that time are responsible for the patterns and designs in the stone.”

The force of nature has allowed us to find as many as 14 different colors of Cristallina marble. This year, for example, Cristallina Violet was found. As Mr. Maurino said, “That’s the fascinating thing about dealing with a natural stone and a quarry: You never know exactly what you’re going to get out of the mountain next time!”
